Current Practice

Tim Neilson is a Director of Greenwoods & Freehills Pty Limited  in Melbourne, having previously spent 4 years as a partner at Freehills, following 15 years experience with another national law firm. 

Tim primarily practices in the area of income tax, including capital gains tax, but also in more recent times GST.

Industry Experience

Tim advises private sector and Government clients, both Australian and international, in relation to a diverse range of transactions including takeovers, debt and equity raisings, restructurings and infrastructure projects.

Recent transactions in which he has been involved include the Western Sydney Orbital road project, an interconnector agreement for interstate electricity transmission, and restructure of an overseas investors’ interests in Australian coal and aluminium projects.

Professional Background

Tim has an Honours Degree in Law from Melbourne University and a Master of Laws Degree from London University.
He is a member of revenue law related committees of the Law Institute of Victoria, the Law Council of Australia and the Taxation Institute of Australia, and a member of the Advisory Board for the Monash University Journal of Australian Taxation.

He has published frequently in professional journals and spoken at professional organisation conferences and seminars and has guest lectured at the University of Melbourne as part of its Masters of Laws program.
