Industry Experience

Ken is one of Australia’s leading experts on tax consolidation and advises on a wide range of corporate tax matters and has extensive experience in advising on corporate reorganisations, acquisitions and divestments. Through Ken’s expertise in corporate tax he has been extensively involved in advising a large number of Australian and foreign listed entities on the application of the Australian tax consolidation regime from its commencement in 2002.

Ken is regularly involved in raising policy and technical issues with Government, Treasury and the Australian Taxation Office on behalf of clients, industry and tax professional bodies. He has played a leading role in consultation on the Government’s Review of Business Taxation initiatives and engaged as a specialist consultant to the Board of Taxation on the tax consolidation component of these measures.

Professional Background

Ken is a member of the Advisory Panel to the Board of Taxation. He is a past President of the Tax Institute and past Chairman of the Tax Institute’s National Technical Committee. Ken lectures on tax consolidation for the Melbourne University Masters Degree Program and is a regular speaker and author on corporate tax developments.

In June 1998 Greenwoods & Freehills Pty Limited merged with Shaddick & Spence. Ken had been a founding partner of Shaddick & Spence since he left Ernst & Young as a senior partner in 1993.

Ken has an honours degree in Economics and Commerce from Melbourne University and has completed postgraduate studies in taxation law at Monash University. He is a Fellow and Honorary Life Member of the Tax Institute and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
